Emily Simpson is hitting back at naysayers who attribute her dramatic body transformation on a weight-loss drug used to treat type 2 diabetes and surgical procedures.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live, The Real Housewives of Orange County star thinks she deserves more ‘credit’ for her weight loss.
‘The thing that bothers me the most is that when people comment on the way that I look, they constantly say, “Ozempic, Ozempic,”‘ she shared, in a reference to the FDA-approved drug designed to help people with type 2 diabetes by improving blood sugar levels, when combined with diet an exercise, according to the Ozempic website.
The Ohio native proceeded to highlight her vigorous fitness routine, which included being at the gym seven days a week, as part of the reason for her weight loss, and overall healthier look.
Simpson’s weight loss journey began after having a moment of clarity after wrapping on the shoot for RHOC in November 2022, according to Page Six.
Shutting down naysayers: Emily Simpson, 47, wants more ‘credit’ for all the hard work she put in at the gym as part of her reason for her dramatic body transformation
‘I remember we filmed the title cards and our showrunner sent a photo of me that he took with his cell phone. And honestly, I didn’t even recognize myself,” Simpson, 47, told Us Weekly.
She took responsibility for her weight gain, saying she ‘ate too much, drank too much, and didn’t go to the gym.’
Feeling depressed and down, Simpson saw a doctor, who did blood work and suggested she try Ozempic or a similar semaglutide.
Ozempic (semaglutide), a noninsulin medicine typically injected once a week, can reduce the risk of traumatic cardiovascular events like heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease when used with improved diet and exercise.
‘I did that in December,’ she said of her use of Ozempic. ‘It was great for my diet. It really just kickstarted me into eating better and eating healthier ’cause it makes you feel like crap ’cause nothing tastes good.’
She maintains she used the drug for about a month before opting to stop when side effects began to surface, but not before thinking the controversial drug helped her get on the right track.
‘I didn’t like the way it made me feel lethargic and it made me just not have a lot of energy, which was hard with three little kids,” she explained to Lewis, before clarifying, ‘but it does make you feel full and it does make you, for me, it was like a refresh.’
